Fashion Week Recap!

Last Fashion Week I went out shooting stills for The Thread, but this time around I was able to shoot short videos for web, broadcast and NBC in Taxi. Laurel, The Thread's fashion editor, and her team chose ten designers to watch this time around and I was able to do some in-studio interviews, shoot backstage at one show and shoot hair and make-up + runway at another.

Jeremy Scott's line was definitely the most outrageous and fun collection that I saw. His major inspiration? Fashion itself.

I was able to hang out backstage with the ladies of Vena Cava, as well. Sophie and Lisa paired their Woodstock-inspired line with some amazing felt hats:

We previewed Fashion Week with studio visits with The Thread 10. I went with Laurel to visit Prabal Gurung, who spoke to us about motorcross:

Subway Musicians Donate Half Their Profit for Haiti Relief

Virginian djembe player Erich Woodrum and Cameroonian balafonist Francois Nnang met only a few weeks ago, but are fast friends. The pair plays nearly everyday together at the Union Square subway station and has decided that they're going to donate half of their profits for a week to the Red Cross for its Haiti relief efforts.

"It's about expressing our solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Haiti," Woodrum said. "We're letting people know that we care and we're doing something about it so hopefully they'll be inspired to do something as well."

Holgas: Washington Square & Washington D.C.

I love the Holga. Not only do you get the old-school joy of waiting to get film developed, but they create really cool vignetting. And who doesn't love medium-format squareness?

A few months a go I shot off two rolls of black-and-white film and forgot about them. I just got them developed and was pleasantly surprised. I present a day in Washington Square Park and a weekend in Washington, D.C.:

Heidi Klum and the Williamsburg Bridge

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show returned to New York, which for me meant media stunts and backstage access to the show.

Marisa Miller, Heidi Klum and Alessandra Ambrosia hit Times Square to promote the show:

The day of the show, I got backstage access to the ladies' hair and make-up session. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Behati Prinsloo were getting prepped while I was there. And guess what -- those luscious locks aren't real:

And then a few days later I went wandering across the Williamsburg Bridge to the LES and SoHo:

Subway Art Blog

Jowy Romano over at The Subway Art Blog posted some of my photos, accompanied by music by Marques Toliver, on his site. The blog is all about art found in or inspired by the NYC metro system and includes amusing, engaging content from all around the MTA.
